Large Salon

This was the empress's reception room and where she and the emperor took their breakfast together. The landscape paintings evoke the empress's love of nature and travelling as well as her yearning for far away places. The marble statue by Antonio Canova towards the back of the room represents Polyhymnia, the Greek muse of heroic poetry.
